Lynette’s Story

 “I am passionate about the work I do with Elayos because it allows me to support women facing significant social injustices, domestic violence, financial instability/abuse, and emotional or physical abuse. Many of the women I work with experience these challenges daily, and although most of their struggles I have not experienced, growing up in a workingclass/non-working family background in Birmingham, I do know what it’s like to face adversity and navigate a world that often overlooks you.

As a doula, my primary role is to support women through pregnancy, labour, and birth, but my work with Elayos goes far beyond that. The baby at the end of the journey is a beautiful little treasure, but the process advocating, empowering, and being there for these women is just as important. It’s about being a steady support in whatever space they need, whether it’s navigating their pregnancy, their personal challenges, or their journey to a better future.

The women I work with teach me something new every day. Their strength, resilience, and determination to overcome obstacles inspire me and make me a better person. Working for Elayos provides me with the opportunity to advocate for and empower some of the most marginalised women in our city, and for that, I am deeply grateful.”
